Quick answer

Person-to-person UPI transfers carry no UPI charge under the current framework, irrespective of amount. Bank and app transaction limits still apply.

What counts as P2P

  • Sending money to another individual's UPI ID or bank account.
  • Transfers between your own accounts — see own-account transfers.
  • Collect requests between individuals.

Paying an individual who is acting as a business — for example a shop using a personal handle — is commercially a merchant payment even if it looks like P2P. Treatment then follows the merchant classification applied by the acquiring bank. See P2M charges.
